Getting to play the God of War video game on PCs is great news for gamers who had waited several years for that to happen. However, this good news comes with some bad parts. People who play God of War through their gaming computers often experience the D3D_Feature_Level 11_1 error.
The error message is sometimes displayed as “Version not supported.” When you get this error, your computer cannot process the game due to one reason or the other. However, before delving into these reasons and other likely causes of the error, we must mention the importance of minimum requirements.
There are some minimum requirements your computer must meet before it can be used to play God of War. These requirements include:
- A 64-bit processor and Windows 10 operating system;
- A processor of at least intel i5-2500k (4 core 3.3 GHz) or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 (4 core 3.1 GHz);
- A memory of 8 GB RAM and storage minimum of 70 GB;
- DirectX feature level 11_1; and
- Graphics card NVIDIA GTX 960 (4 GB) or AMD R9 290K (4 GB).
Check if your computer meets these requirements because you cannot play the game if it doesn’t.
Why Does God of War Show the D3D_Feature_Level 11_1 Error?
After downloading and installing God of War on your PC, you may still experience some issues. One of such is the D3D_Feature_Level 11_1 error. If your computer displays this error on a blank screen, you should not worry much. Unfortunately, it is a fairly common error amongst gamers who play the game on PCs.
The reasons you are seeing the D3D_Feature_Level 11_1 or DirectX error are two.
First, there is the possibility that your computer no longer meets one or more of the requirements for playing the game. A likely issue is if your storage is no longer adequate.
This second reason the God of War game is showing the D3D_Feature_Level 11_1 error is an outdated graphics card. This is also the most common reason and should be the first thing you check when you get the DirectX error. You need to understand that your computer graphics card must always be up-to-date with the latest versions of the game series.
Your graphics card must be NVIDIA GTX 960 (4 GB) or AMD 290K (4 GB) and support DirectX feature level 11_1. If it does not fulfill this requirement, you will find yourself having to deal with the “version not supported” error often.
You may decide to push ahead with the outdated version if you cannot update your driver for one reason or the other. The consequence is that the game’s FPS rate will be limited to 10-15 fps. You will also experience a lot of lagging issues in-game.
